Areas of Application
You can use Slate-Lite in wet areas such as shower & bath without any problems.
Please note that a protective sealant is recommended to ensure durability and easy cleaning.
Furthermore, as with any other wall covering, the substrate of the surface to be processed must be sealed in accordance with valid DIN standards.
All decors of the Slate-Lite and Translucent product lines are suitable for shower & bath, except for the three limestone decors in our portfolio.
UltraThin eco+ and Artdecors Lite are unfortunately not to be used in wet areas.
You can use Slate-Lite outdoors without any problems.
In most cases, additional protective impregnation or sealing is not necessary outdoors.
Depending on the place of application, you can apply an impregnation if necessary, e.g. our Slate-Lite Special Impregnator or Slate-Lite Special Protection.
Our sales department will be happy to advise you further.
The substrate of the surface to be processed must also be waterproofed in accordance with the applicable DIN standards, as with any other wall covering.
Slate-Lite and Translucent are both frost and weather resistant.
When used as a house façade, rear ventilation may be necessary - other surfaces can be bonded directly.
You can also use Slate-Lite in the kitchen without any problems.
When used as a backsplash, we advise sealing the stone veneers to protect the surface from heavy soiling and make it easier to clean. For this, we recommend our Slate-Lite Extreme Protection.
Please apply 2 coats of this in the kitchen to ensure optimum protection.
Use as a worktop is possible under certain conditions. If you use Slate-Lite as a worktop, you should seal the material in any case. Please contact our sales department for detailed case advice.
If necessary, you can also bond Slate-Lite directly over existing tiles.
In this case, please just make sure that the substrate is clean and that the bonding is full-surface.
You can also use most Slate-Lite decors as flooring on stairs.
For a complete list of all usable decors, please contact our sales department at sales@slate-lite.com.
We recommend sealing our stone veneers when used as flooring - our range includes Slate-Lite Extreme Protection.
When used on stair treads, we also recommend the use of profile strips (also available in our range) to protect the butt edges and prevent them from breaking off.
Our UltraThin eco+ range is not suitable for use on stairs.
You can also use Slate-Lite in the pool area or directly in the pool, both in salt water pools and in chemical pools with chlorinated water.
The limestones are excluded from use in wet areas!
A complete list of all decors that can be used in the pool area can be obtained from our sales department at sales@slate-lite.com if required.
Please note that we do not recommend any protective sealing or impregnation for standing water, as this could lead to colour changes.
As with all materials in the pool area, the waterproofing must also be guaranteed in accordance with DIN standards for the substrate.
In stagnant water (as with conventional tiles), it is possible that white lines and residues may appear at the water's edge. These can usually be easily removed with a high-pressure cleaner.
También puede utilizar Slate-Lite para hacer muebles.
En general, recomendamos nuestra gama de productos UltraThin eco+ debido a su bajo espesor total, pero también puede utilizar cualquier otra línea de productos.
You can also use Slate-Lite for furniture construction.
Generally, we recommend our UltraThin eco+ product line for this due to its low overall thickness, but you can also use any other product line.
You can also use Slate-Lite in the fireplace area.
Slate-Lite is heat resistant up to a temperature of 120°C, our standard adhesive up to 90°C.
Our standard material has fire class Cfls1 (floors).
A special, fire-protected material with fire class Cs3d0 is also available to order.
Yes, Slate-Lite is waterproof and heat resistant up to 120°C. Our adhesives up to 90°C.
It is possible to use Slate Lite as a worktop, but we only recommend it under certain conditions due to the rough surface of the stone and the extreme loads that cutting tools, hot pots / pans etc. exert on the natural stone surface.
If you use Slate-Lite as a work surface, you should impregnate the material several times with our Slate-Lite Special Protection.
Please note, however, that the
Slate-Lite Special Protection
is a food-safe impregnation and not a sealer.
The material does not get any scratch resistance through the application of the special protection.
We therefore recommend using cutting tools only in connection with a cutting board, as otherwise scratches would remain on the surface of the material. Please always use an appropriate saucer for hot pots / pans as well.
To make cleaning of the material easy we would recommand to use flat and smooth decors in that area.
Slate-Lite can be used in freshwater aquariums.
Clean both sides of the Slate-Lite sheet with our Special Cleaner before use so that residues of the substrate material do not pose a health hazard to your fish.
We do not stock any protective products for the real stone decor in the aquarium sector.
You can obtain a list of all usable Slate-Lite decors from our sales department sales@slate-lite.com or read our further information under the question "Can Slate-Lite be used in the pool area".
For use in wet areas such as bathrooms and showers, all our stone types except the limestones can be used!
However, if you want to use our real stone decors in a rented flat and a permanent installation is not possible after consultation with the landlord, we have two installation tips for you which can be removed if you move out:
Slate-Lite as a floor covering: First lay out a PVC material and lay Slate-Lite on it.
Slate-Lite as wall covering: Screw a base plate (e.g. wood) to the wall and glue the stone veneer to it.
Slate-Lite is also suitable for outdoor use or the façade.
When applying, ensure that the material is bonded over the entire surface.
Sealing is not necessary, but impregnation of the material is possible.
Slate-Lite and Translucent are suitable for outdoor use, the UltraThin eco+ range is not intended for outdoor use.
Slate-Lite and Translucent are both frost and weather resistant.
When used as a house façade, rear ventilation may be necessary - other surfaces can be bonded directly.
Cleaning can be done with a high-pressure cleaner. Pay attention to the manufacturer's instructions for the high-pressure cleaner and the specified distances for using the device.
You can easily glue Slate-Lite over existing tiles, e.g. in the kitchen as a backsplash, on the floor or in the shower & bathroom.
The only important thing here is that the substrate is clean and the bonding is full-surface.
When using the product as a floor covering over old tiles, you should fill existing joints beforehand, as otherwise the joint pattern could be pressed through over time.
Our UltraThin eco+ range is not recommended for installation over existing tiles.
Note: The amount of adhesive required may be up to 40% higher than usual, as the existing joints must be levelled.
