It is possible to use Slate Lite as a worktop, but we only recommend it under certain conditions due to the rough surface of the stone and the extreme loads that cutting tools, hot pots / pans etc. exert on the natural stone surface.
If you use Slate-Lite as a work surface, you should impregnate the material several times with our Slate-Lite Special Protection.
Please note, however, that the
Slate-Lite Special Protection
is a food-safe impregnation and not a sealer.
The material does not get any scratch resistance through the application of the special protection.
We therefore recommend using cutting tools only in connection with a cutting board, as otherwise scratches would remain on the surface of the material. Please always use an appropriate saucer for hot pots / pans as well.
To make cleaning of the material easy we would recommand to use flat and smooth decors in that area.
Slate-Lite can be bonded to almost all substrates, including concrete, sheetrock, wood, metal, tiles, plaster, etc.
The substrate only needs to be smooth, dust-free, clean and dry.
No special preparation is necessary for "stable" substrates.
Crumbling substrates such as old, crumbling plaster or wallpaper that is already peeling off must be primed in advance to ensure a permanent bond between the adhesive and the wall.
Excessive unevenness in the substrate must either be treated with a primer or sanded down.
The basic processing of Slate-Lite is done in four simple steps:
1) Cut Slate-Lite to size (if necessary).
2) Impregnate or seal depending on where it is to be applied.
3) Apply suitable adhesive over the entire surface of the wall or the back of the stone sheet.
4) Position Slate-Lite at the desired location and press into place.
Detailed processing instructions can be found in our shop in the "Processing" section as well as in our data sheets.

No special tools are required for the processing of Slate-Lite!
You can cut our real stone decors with commercially available tools for wood or stone. We recommend an immersion circular saw with a wood or plastic saw blade with the finest possible teeth. For smaller cut-outs, an oscillating tool/multitool is particularly suitable.
Our UltraThin eco+ product range can even be cut with scissors or a cutter due to its cotton underside.
Slate-Lite is also suitable for outdoor use or the façade.
When applying, ensure that the material is bonded over the entire surface.
Sealing is not necessary, but impregnation of the material is possible.
Slate-Lite and Translucent are suitable for outdoor use, the UltraThin eco+ range is not intended for outdoor use.
Slate-Lite and Translucent are both frost and weather resistant.
When used as a house façade, rear ventilation may be necessary - other surfaces can be bonded directly.
Cleaning can be done with a high-pressure cleaner. Pay attention to the manufacturer's instructions for the high-pressure cleaner and the specified distances for using the device.
Slate-Lite is heat resistant up to a maximum temperature of 120°C, our standard adhesive up to 90°C.
You can also order Slate-Lite directly from our shop in your individual desired size - this means there is no need to cut it to size on site and you can start processing it straight away.
Please only note the extended delivery time, as your decors will then be manufactured and shipped expressly according to your specifications.
A special, fire-protected material with fire class Cs3d0 is also available to order.
Our protective products are not compatible with each other, please refrain from combining different impregnations or sealants.
Slate-Lite can be cleaned with all commercially available, non-caustic household cleaners.
In most cases, clear water and a lint-free cloth or a soft brush are sufficient.
In outdoor areas, cleaning with a high-pressure cleaner is also possible; please only observe the recommended distance of the device manufacturer when using it.

You can easily glue Slate-Lite over existing tiles, e.g. in the kitchen as a backsplash, on the floor or in the shower & bathroom.
The only important thing here is that the substrate is clean and the bonding is full-surface.
When using the product as a floor covering over old tiles, you should fill existing joints beforehand, as otherwise the joint pattern could be pressed through over time.
Our UltraThin eco+ range is not recommended for installation over existing tiles.
Note: The amount of adhesive required may be up to 40% higher than usual, as the existing joints must be levelled.
For optimal bonding of Slate-Lite, the substrate should be smooth, clean, dust-free and dry.
With "stable" no special preparation is necessary.
Crumbling substrates such as old, crumbling plaster or wallpaper that is already peeling must be primed in advance to ensure a permanent bond between the adhesive and the wall, or a new stable substrate must be created.
Severe unevenness must also be levelled with primer, filled or sanded down.
Our real stone decors are very easy and uncomplicated to install. For this purpose, the appropriate adhesive is spread on the surface to be processed or on the back of the stone sheet and the Slate-Lite sheet is then pressed on at the desired location.
We have different adhesives in our range depending on where they are to be applied. Please refer to the respective data sheets of the adhesives for further information on processing and application.
In general, Slate-Lite is best applied with polymer adhesives.
The adhesive products in our range are:
Slate-Lite Extreme: Bath & Exterior: All interior & exterior bonding of Slate-Lite.
Translucent Crystal Clear: Transparent adhesive for Translucent
UltraThin eco+ Contact Adhesive: Suitable for all UltraThin eco+ bonding applications
Spray contact adhesive for grouting.
We generally cannot recommend other tile adhesives for the time being, as permanent bonding cannot be guaranteed here.
More detailed instructions for processing Slate-Lite can be found in our shop in the "Processing" section and in the respective data sheets.

Our real stone decors can be bent gently due to their low thickness.
Depending on the selected range, the bendable radius varies: Slate-Lite can be bent approx. 5cm and Translucent 10cm.
UltraThineco+ can be 3D bent to some extent due to its cotton backing.
Slate-Lite has achieved the slip classes R9 (coloured slate) and R10 (mica slate).
